Student Support Services Team
SSST Program Overview
Since 1978, Purcell and Purcell Marian High School (PMHS) has provided quality instruction for students who have specific learning disabilities, including Autism. Purcell Marian is currently an Autism provider and a Jon Peterson provider. As the Catholic High School in Cincinnati with the longest history of providing these services, Purcell Marian seeks to ensure that all students receive a quality education.
Purcell Marian High School recognizes that most students experience difficulty with their academic work at times. In some cases, however, the difficulty is prolonged and severe due to various special learning situations and there is need for ongoing support. For this reason, the Student Support Services Team (SSST) Program for students with special needs has been established.
Service Plans & IEPs
The SSST department facilitates the implementation of the Individualized Service Plan (ISP). Purcell Marian SSST personnel, in partnership with Cincinnati Public Schools (I.D.E.A. funded personnel) provide specified services that are written in the ISP for eligible students. Services include, but are not limited to, speech, classroom and testing accommodations, high stakes testing accommodations, and classroom support.
Resource Room Services
Resource Room services are available to students admitted to the SSST Program. Students taking advantage of these services will be scheduled for a daily class period in the Resource Room. The Resource Team works with each student and their advocates to create an individual plan for success in the classroom, and to provide an appropriate level of support to achieve this success. Services include organizational skills, time management techniques, social skills development, content tutoring, goal-setting and assessment. And also has team building events.
Case Management Services
A member of the Student Support Services Team will serve as the Case Manager for each SSST Program student. The Case Manager coordinates the student’s ISP team and serves as the contact person for problem solving or information that may be needed by students, parents, Purcell Marian teachers, or other Purcell Marian staff members.
SSST Program Entrance Requirements
Students seeking admission into the SSST program must complete all general application requirements for admission to Purcell Marian High School along with the SSST program application form.
In order to be considered for admission to the SSST program, students must be identified by a current (within three years) Evaluation Team Report (ETR) conducted in accordance with IDEA policy and procedures, which includes an individually-administered measure of ability (i.e. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV) and an individually administered measure of achievement in reading, math and written language (i.e. Woodcock-Johnson III).
