Introducing The Purcell Marian 'Geography Do Now'
Global Commitment Expands at The Castle!
Global education is nothing new to Purcell Marian. Students were traveling abroad decades ago, and the school offered a long-time Intersession program where students had multiple opportunities to travel regionally and abroad. Last year, under the new leadership of Andy Farfsing '95, Intersession was taken off the table to allow school leaders to rethink, enhance and improve its global opportunities.
This year, under the director of Bob Herring '68, Purcell Marian is rolling out a variety of opportunities for all students at Purcell Marian High School, including weekly geography challenges called the Geography Do Now, measurable assessments for improving global knowledge, as well as service learning opportunities overseas.
Recently, students attended an all-school assembly that introduced them to these exciting new opportunities. The link below offers an overview of that assembly and what students were offered, from the weekly Geography Do Now to the announcement of a Student Delegation to Ecuador for a community development project in the Spring of 2019, as well as future plans to visit Kharkiv, Ukraine for a similar project in the 2019-20 school year.
