CINCINNATI — Purcell Marian High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Ahlers as its next Principal. A dedicated Catholic educator and experienced instructional leader, Mr. Ahlers brings more than 30 years of experience in Catholic education and a deep commitment to academic excellence, student formation, and mission-driven leadership.
Mr. Ahlers currently serves as Assistant Principal for Student Life at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, where he has been a key member of the leadership team since 2018. In this role, he has contributed to strategic planning, faculty development, student life programming, and the integration of faith and formation across the school community.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ahlers has demonstrated a collaborative and servant-oriented leadership style. He has led initiatives to strengthen school culture, expand student programming, and enhance student support systems, including partnerships focused on student wellness and mental health. His work reflects a consistent commitment to forming the whole person—intellectually, spiritually, and socially—within a Catholic educational environment.
“I am honored to join Purcell Marian at such a significant moment as we approach our Centennial in 2028. Having worked alongside many proud Cavaliers throughout my career, I am eager to help lead a faith-filled, diverse community where we bring out the best in each student for the benefit of all,” said Ahlers. “The faculty and staff at Purcell Marian are deeply committed to helping every student grow and achieve, and that is what draws me to this community. Throughout my 30 years in Catholic education, I have partnered with students,
families, and colleagues to support diverse learners and ensure each student is known, supported, and encouraged to reach their potential. I look forward to building on that work at Purcell Marian.”
Mr. Ahlers began his career in the classroom, teaching English at Moeller High School, then returned to his alma mater, Elder High School, before joining St. Xavier High School. His experience as both an educator and administrator has equipped him with a strong understanding of curriculum development, student engagement, and faculty leadership. He holds a Master of Secondary Education from the University of Cincinnati, achieved National Board Certification for English teaching, and has completed graduate coursework in administration at Xavier University.
Theodore James Whapham, PhD, President of Purcell Marian High School, expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful and mission-driven search process:
“We are deeply grateful to the entire Purcell Marian community, who were part of the process, in particular the members of our Search Committee, for their dedication, discernment, and commitment to this important work. Throughout the process, the committee engaged prayerfully and thoughtfully with each candidate, ensuring that we identified a leader who is well aligned with the mission and future of Purcell Marian.”
Dr. Whapham continued, “Purcell Marian High School is thrilled to welcome Mr. Ahlers as its next principal. The community was impressed not only with his outstanding work in Catholic education and administration, but also with the way that he connected with various members of our school community.
