Purcell Marian students set new standards on 2025 International Baccalaureate Exams

July 25, 2025

Purcell Marian High School is proud to announce the outstanding performance of our students on the 2025 International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, reinforcing the school's commitment to academic excellence and global education.

This year, 45% of the senior class participated in IB testing, a testament to the continued growth of Purcell Marian’s rigorous academic programming. Among them, four seniors earned the prestigious IB Diploma, recognized worldwide for its challenging curriculum and college-preparatory rigor. The four Diplomas awarded are the most in Purcell Marian school history

Highlights of this year’s IB exam results (all assessments are scored 1-7 with 7 being the highest) include :

  • 94% of students scored a 4 or higher in IB English (Standard Level and Higher Level), the most widely taken IB course at Purcell Marian.

  • In IB Spanish, 80% of students scored 4 or higher, including two students who achieved a perfect score of 7—a rare and remarkable accomplishment.

  • 70% of students scored 4 or higher in Higher Level History, and notably, the average score of our students exceeded the global average.
Shout out to veteran teacher Mr. Lyle Greer for leading the way in HL History success!

Purcell Marian is Cincinnati’s only Catholic high school authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and these results demonstrate our strong trajectory as a center for real-world learning rooted in faith, scholarship, and community. Next year, the Class of 2026 will become the first Purcell Marian graduation class with 100% participation in IB courses.
