The 10 Best Stories of 2021

As we await the new year, let’s look back at 10 of the best stories you may have missed from an extraordinary year at the Castle.

Our Career Initiatives Program continues to grow! The classroom is at capacity and a new section in manufacturing was added. Students are enjoying hands-on projects and networking with over a dozen industry leaders.

Mark Burns '21 brought a state championship back to the Castle after winning the 200-meter dash. Girls Basketball won their first Regional Championship and finished their season in the State Final Four. Baseball placed more players on the All-City team than any other school. This autumn, Football had its most successful season since 2000 and every fall sport increased their win total and participation numbers from 2020. To top it off, a remarkable 34 fall athletes were given conference honors. It's truly been a Cavalier Renaissance.

Alumni Association Golf Outing hosts a sold-out event! 168 alumni golfers take to the green to celebrate school spirit and raise money for the school. Special thanks to Tom Dulle '81 and the Alumni Association for their effort in organizing a spectacular event. Save the date for 2022 Golf Outing - September 26, 2022

The Walk returned to Purcell Marian! Students and faculty raised over $7,000 to support school programs and activities, plus participated in service projects benefiting multiple local non-profits.

The International Baccalaureate Program completes its first full year at Purcell Marian. Students earned college credit at universities around the country.

Our classrooms were full of prominent guests and Alumni, including Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney, alumni entrepreneur Sonny Van Arnem ‘59, Daniel Cross ‘06, Sara Sheets ‘89, Dr. Tom Santer ‘65, Simon Dadosky ‘15, Matt Barney ‘03, Khalil El-Amin ‘04, Ellen Bates ‘06, Jessica Baston ‘10, Joe Halpin ‘80, and many, many more alumni who have come back to share their gifts and talents with the Castle. Women Alumnae Happy Hours are a great success! Regina, St. Mary’s, Regina, and Purcell Marian alumnae from the class of 1963 to 2014 connect and network over drinks and light bites. Update your info to stay in touch for future events and invites.

Project Cavalier raises $5.3 million to date in support of the future on-campus field complex. Harry & Linda Fath make a monumental $1 million gift to Purcell Marian in support. See a project update and timeline here!

Caitlin + Alicia Jimmar, twin co-valedictorians for the class of 2021, enroll at Northwestern University (Caitlin) and the University of Chicago (Alicia). Fun fact: Caitlin & Alicia are the children of PM alumni (Laura ‘99 & Jeff ‘89 Jimmar) and the granddaughters of the current longest-tenured staff, Lenny Hamm.

Veteran’s Day brought together over 90 people in the Caritas Chapel to celebrate our alumni veterans, past and present. Staff Sgt Jack Freppon ‘66 was honored posthumously by a Mayoral Proclamation, presented to his 95-year old mother.
